A few months back, I helped indieWIRE relaunch its long-running but recently dormant monthly “In Production” column, which spotlighted upcoming films that were currently, well, in production. Together, we took a broader approach for the relaunch of the column, expanded it into a regular weekly column, and renamed it “In the Works”.
I’m always curious about what filmmakers are working on, so in addition to tweeting about iW‘s column, I’ll occasionally spotlight some of these types of projects here as well.
My friend Angela Tucker has been working on a (as yet still untitled, despite my best efforts!) documentary on Asexuality. Take a look at the project’s Kickstarter campaign page (and consider contributing if you can).
I’m really curious about the angle Angela’s taking, looking at the development of a community and identity for asexuals. With an explicit connection to the identity politics of the LGBT community, it should be fascinating to see how another, very different sexual minority defines itself and makes itself understood to the mainstream – and since asexuality cuts across lines of race, gender, and orientation, that “mainstream” all of a sudden encompasses a wide range of people, many who are themselves different types of minorities and have had a challenge claiming space in the larger social sphere.
Update: indieWIRE profiles the project here.
