Northside 2011: Documentary Overview

Brooklyn’s Northside Festival is the third of three posts on events beginning in NYC tomorrow. Now in its third year, the event, organized by The L Magazine, spotlights music, film, art, and ideas – a sort of mini-SXSW in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. Running June 16-19, there’s a little bit of something for everyone.

For the event’s film component, the festival has partnered with a range of organizations and venues, including Rooftop Films, IFP, BAM, UnionDocs, indieScreen, and NewFest, to co-present an eclectic mix of narratives, docs, and shorts.

Among the non-fiction highlights that are worth checking out are Errol Morris’ TABLOID, Travis Mathews’ IN THEIR ROOM: BERLIN (pictured), and Etienne’ Sauret’s DIRTY PICTURES. Other docs that I haven’t seen yet include PRESSPAUSEPLAY, FUNERAL SEASON, ECHOTONE, and LA FAUTE DES FLEURS.
