This year’s selections tell ten of the millions of stories of the city, exploring gentrification, fatherhood, its iconic music history, the lonely life of an activist, its subcultural enclaves, midwifery, the spectres of its dangerous past, its vibrant performing arts, the competitive educational system, and its opportunities for entrepreneurial success.
