ELEGY OF A CRIME
Among the titles in the Brazilian Competition are Cristiano Burlan’s
ELEGY OF A CRIME, the filmmaker’s exploration of his mother’s murder; Cao Guimarães’
WAITING, a meditation on anticipation; Margarita Hernandez’s
CHE, MEMORIES OF A SECRET YEAR, an insiders’ look at how Che Guevara avoided the CIA and KGB in December 1965; and Luiz Bolognesi’s
EX-SHAMAN, a portrait of an indigenous shaman forced to convert to Christianity.

STEALING RODIN
The fest’s Latin American Competition offers, among other titles, Cristóbal Valenzuela’s
STEALING RODIN, revisiting the 2005 disappearance of a sculpture in Chile; and Andrés Chaves Sánchez’s
CARTUCHO, on the transformation of a Colombian neighborhood into a rundown haven for crack addicts.

ZAATARI – MEMORIES OF THE LABYRINTH
The International Competition includes work such as Paschoal Samora’s
ZAATARI – MEMORIES OF THE LABYRINTH, set in the massive Syrian refugee camp; and Milena de Moura Barba’s
BEIJING INTO SONGS, in which Beijing residents sing songs of personal significance.
