Coming to DVD this coming Tuesday, November 5: THE GREEN WAVE

Ali Samadi Ahadi’s meditation on Iran’s 2009 Green Revolution debuted at Hamburg in 2010. It went on to screen at IDFA, Sundance, San Francisco, Planete Doc Review, Human Rights Watch, Edinburgh, Jerusalem, and Vancouver, among others, and to enjoy a limited theatrical release.

In Theatres: RUNNING FROM CRAZY

Barbara Kopple’s look at the legacy of mental illness on a celebrated family had its world premiere at Sundance this year. Its festival circuit has included Sundance London, Tribeca, Nantucket, Hamptons, Provincetown, Camden, Full Frame, and Sarasota, among others. After opening at NYC’s Angelika this weekend, OWN expands the film to Los Angeles and San Francisco next week, with Chicago to follow later in the month.

In Theatres: THE SQUARE

squareComing to NYC’s Film Forum tomorrow, Friday, October 25: THE SQUARE (AL MIDAN)

Jehane Noujaim’s immersive story of Egypt’s ongoing struggle for democracy had its world premiere in an early form at Sundance this year, winning an audience award. She continued to film and edit the film, bringing a revised version to premiere at Toronto last month, where it once again won an audience award. The doc will expand to Los Angeles theatres next week.

In Theatres & Special Screening: WHEN I WALK

when i walkComing to NYC’s IFC Center this Friday, October 25 and to JCC in Manhattan’s CineMatters series this Sunday, October 27: WHEN I WALK

Jason DaSilva’s chronicle of experiencing the onset of multiple sclerosis made its debut at Sundance at the beginning of the year. It went on to screen at Hot Docs, where it won Best Canadian Feature, as well as at Sarasota, NY Asian American, Milwaukee, LA’s Arclight Doc Fest, Vancouver, Hot Springs, Heartland, Margaret Mead, and Poland’s New Horizons American Film Festival. The film expands to Los Angeles next week.

Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s investigation into the plight of captive orcas had its world premiere at Sundance earlier this year. It has gone on to screen at Nantucket, Seattle, Sarasota, Vancouver, Provincetown, AFI Docs, Miami, Moscow, Melbourne, and Sydney, among others, and to enjoy a limited theatrical release this Summer.

Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine’s portrait of the effects of a rare disease on a family debuted at Sundance this year. The film has gone on to win awards at Nantucket, Mountainfilm, Woods Hole, Rhode Island, and Heartland, with additional screenings at Martha’s Vineyard, AFI Docs, and Boulder, among others.
