Coming to Bravo for its television debut tonight, Monday, April 29: THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES

Lauren Greenfield’s exploration of the haves facing the Recession debuted at Sundance last year, picking up the US Documentary Directing Award. It went on to screen extensively, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Provincetown, Karlovy Vary, Traverse City, and IDFA. It enjoyed a limited theatrical release and is available on DVD.

Terence Nance’s meditation on the relationship between a man and a woman debuted at Sundance last year. The hybrid project – neither strictly fiction nor nonfiction – went on to screen at Rotterdam, New Directors/New Films, Urbanworld, Sundance London, Cleveland, Traverse City, and New Orleans, among many others.

On DVD: HISTORY OF THE EAGLES

Alison Ellwood’s premiered the first part of her chronicle of the seminal American band at Sundance earlier this year, with the second part debuting on Showtime in February. This DVD/Blu-ray release includes both parts plus EAGLES LIVE AT THE CAPITAL CENTER – MARCH 1977, featuring performances from the band’s legendary Hotel California tour.

Sebastian Junger’s affecting tribute to his fallen comrade had its world premiere at Sundance this past January. Since then, it has screened at True/False, Miami, Cleveland, and Full Frame, among others. The film’s limited theatrical release comes just before its HBO premiere next week.

Coming to DVD today, Tuesday, April 9: LOVE FREE OR DIE

Macky Alston picked up a special jury prize upon the debut of his portrait of gay bishop Gene Robinson at Sundance last year. The doc has had an extensive fest circuit, with stops at Cleveland, Full Frame, Seattle, New Orleans, IFF Boston, Frameline, Outfest, and NewFest, among others, while also screening at a number of churches and community centers.

Coming to PBS’ Independent Lens next Monday, April 8: THE HOUSE I LIVE IN

Eugene Jarecki’s searing indictment of America’s failed war on drugs premiered at Sundance last year, where it won the US documentary grand jury prize. It’s gone on to screen at Los Angeles, Vancouver, Melbourne, and Minneapolis St Paul, among others. Shortlisted for the Best Documentary Oscar, the film enjoyed a limited theatrical release as well as a VOD release.
