Coming to NYC’s Stranger Than Fiction tomorrow, Tuesday, November 10: MARWENCOL
Jeff Malmberg’s remarkable portrait of trauma mediated by world-building made its debut at SXSW in 2010, where it won the documentary jury prize. It had an extensive festival run, which included Cleveland, IFF Boston, Hot Docs, Seattle, Silverdocs, Fantasia, Woodstock, Vienna, Docville, and Biografilm, and received recognition from Cinema Eye Honors, the IDA, and the Independent Spirit Awards, among several others.

Note: This special screening coincides with the release of a new book, WELCOME TO MARWENCOL, and includes a post-screening Q&A and book signing with film subject Mark Hogencamp and film producer/book co-author Chris Shellen.

Coming to PBS’s Independent Lens today, Monday, November 9: STRAY DOG
Debra Granik’s candid profile of a biker premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival last year, where it won the best documentary award. The film went on to screen at the New York Film Festival, New Orleans, Zurich, Hamptons, BFI London, Indie Memphis, Stockholm, Zagreb Dox, Cleveland, Sarasota, Nashville, and Jeonju, among other events, and was released theatrically this Summer.

Thomas Wirthensohn’s look at a man’s unexpected life premiered at Film Festival Kitzbuehel last year, where it won the best documentary award. It also picked up an award at DOC NYC, and has screened at DocAviv, Sarasota, and Hof, among other events. The doc now comes to VOD via iTunes.
