Coming to DVD next Tuesday, November 16: BEST WORST MOVIE
Michael Paul Stephenson premiered his documentary at SXSW last year, and went on to play more than a dozen other fests, scooping up a handful of jury and audience awards along the way. Not bad for a film about one of the worst movies ever made.
Stephenson was the child star of that infamous movie, TROLL 2, and the critical and audience panning it received brought an end to not only his fledgling acting career but that of virtually every other actor who crossed its path. In BEST WORST MOVIE, he explores the fan culture that’s been built up around the legendary 1990 film, with retro screenings held around the US for new and old audiences to experience its groan-inducing dialogue and inane plot communally. Seeking out the cast and crew, he maintains a deft balance between gentle chiding and a strange respect, resulting in an undeniably entertaining and at times poignant must-see documentary.
