Sundance Program Description:

Porn has gone mainstream; the question is, can we handle it? This exploration of the intersection of sex and technology is told through the stories of the people whose lives are defined by the current explosion of internet porn – whether they’re creating it, consuming it, or both. The Festival will debut an episode titled “Women on Top,” directed by Rashida Jones, which explores a subculture of women bringing feminist philosophies into their workplace, with the idea that female-friendly porn can exist.

Some Background:
Director/Executive Producer:

  • Rashida Jones
    Past Sundance docs:

    HOT GIRLS WANTED (2015, producer)

Jones received an Emmy nomination for HOT GIRLS WANTED, the documentary which inspired this new Netflix series. The actress, best known for her role on PARKS AND RECREATION also wrote, executive produced, and starred in Sundance narrative feature alum CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER (2012) and co-produced THE TEN (2007).

Executive Producers:

  • Ronna Gradus and Jill Bauer
    Past Sundance docs:

Gradus and Bauer also collaborated on SEXY BABY.

  • Mark Herzog and Christopher G Cowen
The Herzog & Company execs also executive produced fellow 2017 Sundance Special Event docuseries THE HISTORY OF COMEDY and the popular CNN docuseries THE SIXTIES, THE SEVENTIES, THE EIGHTIES, and THE NINETIES.

  • Peter LoGreco
This is LoGreco’s first Sundance credit. Hhe has previously produced several television shows, including A&E’s DOGS OF WAR and INTERVENTION.

Why You Should Watch:
Jones continues the exploration of sexuality in our technology-driven society that began with the HOT GIRLS WANTED doc feature. The showcased episode profiles the work of three women who have worked or are currently working in pornography from behind the cameras, contrasting the experiences of the pre-Internet age and today, while also exploring productions in Barcelona and in Los Angeles.
