In Theatres: SEMBENE!

Samba Gadjigo and Jason Silverman’s portrait of the influential father of African cinema debuted at Sundance at the beginning of the year. It went on to screen at Cannes, Telluride, Sydney, BFI London, Durban, Mill Valley, Zanzibar, and Rio.

Since then, it has screened at Nantucket, BAMcinemaFest, AFI Docs, Outfest, San Francisco, SXSW, Hot Docs, Full Frame, Srasota, Miami, and IFF Boston, among others. The film will screen as part of DOC NYC’s Short List section later this month.

Other festival screenings have included Ann Arbor, Art of the Real, BAFICI, Nashville, San Francisco, Seattle, Galway, Dokufest Kosovo, Vancouver, and a slew of LGBT events in London, Boston, Torino, Toronto, Vienna, and Los Angeles, among others. I’ll be hosting the Q&A with Jenni for the 5:30pm screening this Sunday at Anthology Film Archives.
