Coming to theatres tomorrow, Friday, August 14: MERU

Jimmy Chin and E Chai Vasarhelyi’s study of three determined men against a seemingly unscalable peak made its debut at Sundance earlier this year, where it won an audience award. Since then, it has screened at Nantucket, True/False, Full Frame, San Francisco, Telluride Mountainfilm, and Nashville, among others.

Coming to theatres this Friday, August 14: WE COME AS FRIENDS

Hubert Sauper’s investigation into modern day colonialism in Africa had its world premiere at Sundance last year, where it won a special jury award. It went on to screen at Berlin, New Directors/New Films, BAFICI, Istanbul, San Francisco, Durban, Dokufest, Rio, Busan, London, Jihlava, CPH:DOX, IDFA, and Traverse City, among many others.

Coming to theatres tomorrow, Friday, August 7: CALL ME LUCKY

Bobcat Goldthwait’s portrait of a comic turned unlikely activist debuted at Sundance earlier this year. It has gone on to screen at IFF Boston, Boulder, Montclair, and Cleveland, among others.

Coming to DVD today, Tuesday, August 4: THE NIGHTMARE

Rodney Ascher’s unsettling look at the phenomenon of sleep paralysis had its world premiere at Sundance at the beginning of the year. Screenings followed at Hot Docs, SXSW, Seattle, and the Stanley Film Festival.

Morgan Neville and Robert Gordon’s revisitation of a notorious battle of the minds debuted at Sundance this year. It has traveled extensively since, screening at Nantucket, BAMcinemaFest, AFI Docs, Outfest, San Francisco, SXSW, Hot Docs, Full Frame, Srasota, Miami, and IFF Boston, among others.

Stevan Riley’s stunning posthumously constructed autobiography of the screen legend made its bow at Sundance this year. It went on to screen at Nantucket, San Francisco, New Directors/New Films, Hot Docs, AFI Docs, Sydney, Seattle, Provincetown, and Ashland, among others.

Coming to theatres and to VOD today, Friday, July 24: A GAY GIRL IN DAMASCUS: THE AMINA PROFILE

Sophie Deraspe’s look at the true story behind a controversial Syrian blog debuted at Sundance earlier this year. It has gone on to screen at Hot Docs, Biografilm, Dallas, IFF Boston, and at LGBT fests in San Francisco, Toronto, London, and Miami, among others. Sundance Selects now brings the films to theatres in limited release, while the SundanceNow Doc Club makes it available on VOD.
