Coming to PBS’s POV this coming Monday, July 20: RETURN TO HOMS

Talal Derki’s immersion into the Syrian civil war made its debut at IDFA in 2013. It came stateside at Sundance, where it won the World Cinema Documentary Grand Jury Prize, and went on to screen at New Directors/New Films, Human Rights Watch, ZagrebDox, Thessaloniki Doc, Full Frame, It’s All True, Hot Docs, San Francisco, Krakow, EDoc, Sarajevo, Dokufest Kosovo, Docs DF, and Abu Dhabi, among several others.

Now available on VOD: THE WOLFPACK

Crystal Moselle’s look at a sheltered family raised on films made its bow at Sundance this year, where it claimed the US Documentary Grand Jury Prize. It went on to screen at Nantucket, Cleveland, Full Frame, Sarasota, Tribeca, San Francisco, and Seattle, among others. Magnolia now makes the film available on VOD, exclusively on iTunes.

Coming to PBS’s POV this coming Monday, July 13: WEB JUNKIE

Shosh Shlam and Hilla Medalia’s unprecedented look at Chinese Internet addiction had its world premiere at Sundance last year. Screenings followed at Miami, Dallas, Melbourne, Traverse City, One World, Hong Kong, ZagrebDox, Göteborg, and DOXA, among others.

Coming to theatre this Friday, July 3: CARTEL LAND

Matthew Heineman’s exploration of Mexico’s cartel violence had its world premiere at Sundance this year, where it picked up two awards. It has gone on to screen at Nantucket, True/False, Ashland, Martha’s Vineyard, Full Frame, Dallas, Sarasota, Tribeca, IFF Boston, Documenta, Docville, MountainFilm, Seattle, Sydney, Human Rights Watch, AFI Docs, and Sheffield, among others.

Coming to HBO tonight, Monday, June 29: LARRY KRAMER IN LOVE & ANGER

Jean Carlomusto’s portrait of the outspoken AIDS activist bowed at Sundance earlier this year. Other fest screenings have included Frameline, Provincetown, QDoc, and AFI Docs.

Coming to PBS’s POV tonight, Monday, June 29: THE OVERNIGHTERS

Jesse Moss’ portrait of the limits of community altruism debuted at Sundance last year, where it won a special jury prize. It went on to screen at DOC NYC, Traverse City, Hot Docs, True/False, Tribeca, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Dallas, among others, and was shortlisted for the Academy Awards.

Coming to theatres and VOD tomorrow, Friday, June 26: FRESH DRESSED

Sacha Jenkins’ exploration of early hip hop fashion bowed at Sundance earlier this year. It has gone on to screen at Dallas, RiverRun, Sarasota, Nashville, and Hawaii, among others.
