Coming to DVD tomorrow, Tuesday, January 14: 20 FEET FROM STARDOM
Morgan Neville’s spotlight on backup singers debuted last year at Sundance as one of the opening night selections. It has screened extensively since, including berths at SXSW, DOC NYC, Miami, Sarasota, Dallas, and Seattle. It enjoyed a successful theatrical release and has been shortlisted for the Best Documentary Oscar – the five finalists will be announced this Thursday.

Rebecca Richman Cohen’s look at the trial of a controversial Sierra Leonean civil war figure debuted at SXSW in 2010, winning a special jury award. The doc went on to win further awards at IFF Boston, Human Rights Watch, Taiwan Doc, and elsewhere, and included among its extensive circuit Full Frame, Silverdocs, Camden, Festival do Rio, Citizen Jane, and DokuFest Prizren, among others. The Orchard now releases the film on VOD via iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, VUDU, and XBOX.

Coming to DVD tomorrow, Tuesday, January 14: OUR NIXON
Penny Lane’s archival excavation of Tricky Dick’s White House had its world premiere at Rotterdam last year. It went on to screen at SXSW, Nantucket, New Directors/New Films, Los Angeles, Seattle, AFI Docs, and Traverse City. It received its broadcast premiere on CNN this Summer, and also enjoyed a theatrical release across the country.

S Epatha Merkerson and Rockell Metcalf’s look at the complex legacy of African American mutual aid associations in the South debuted at the San Diego Black Film Festival in 2012. The doc went on to screen at Chicago’s Black Harvest, Annapolis, BronzeLens, Langston Hughes, Pan African, and the San Francisco, Montreal, Newark, Texas, and American Black Film Festivals, among others.
