Jimmy Chin and E Chai Vasarhelyi’s look at attempts to scale a daunting mountain debuted at Sundance this year, picking up an audience award. Other fest screenings have included Nantucket, True/False, Full Frame, San Francisco, Telluride Mountainfilm, and Nashville, among others.

Just as America’s largest nonfiction festival, DOC NYC, wraps up, the world’s largest documentary event, Amsterdam’s IDFA, kicks off. The powerhouse fest celebrates its 28th edition between tomorrow, Wednesday, November 18 and Sunday, November 29, showcasing more than 170 new documentary features among scores more retrospective programming, shorts, and new media work. DOC NYC PRO’s Insider Conference comes to a close on Thursday, November 19 with Breaking In, New Road Maps, a day focused on expanding the nonfiction space to diverse and emerging voices, Copresented by The City of New York Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and creative partner Chicken & Egg Pictures. All of the Insiders Conference DOC NYC PRO sessions include access to the new PRO Lounge, begin with morning bagels and coffee from 9:15-10:00am, and conclude with Happy Hours from 5:00-6:00pm.
