Special Screenings: Cinema Eye Honors Nominees

cinema eye honors 2014Coming to NYC’s Maysles Cinema today and tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, January 3-4: The Cinema Eye Honors Spotlight Film Series

The 7th annual Cinema Eye Honors, celebrating excellence in nonfiction film, will take place on January 8 ay the Museum of Moving Image. Thanks to filmmaker/occasional critic Robert Greene, the Maysles Cinema is offering New Yorkers a chance to view three of the criminally underseen nominees of this year’s Spotlight Award, which singles out films from the previous year that deserve more attention than perhaps they have received.

In Theatres: LOS ANGELES PLAYS ITSELF

los-angeles-plays-itself_592x299Coming to NYC’s IFC Center tomorrow Friday, January 3: LOS ANGELES PLAYS ITSELF

Andersen premiered his essay about the cinematic representation of Los Angeles at Toronto in 2003. It went on to have an extensive festival run, including slots at Sundance, Rotterdam, Marseille, Karlovy Vary, and CPH:DOX, among others. On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, it is being presented in a new, remastered and re-edited version.

Rob Kuhns’ chronicle of the making of George A Romero’s seminal zombie film had its premiere at Tallgrass last year. Its fest run also included Florida, Cinequest, Big Sky, Woods Hole, Sitges, Woodstock, and the Southern Circuit, as well as limited theatrical engagements and a VOD release.
